About I70

When planning a drive along Interstate 70, keeping a close eye on I‑70 Weather can mean the difference between smooth sailing and stuck in a snowdrift. Stretching just over 2,150 miles from Cove Fort, Utah, to Baltimore, Maryland, I‑70 traverses ten states and a wide range of climates. In Colorado’s high country, sudden snow squalls and subzero temperatures around the Eisenhower Tunnel are common even in spring, while the wide-open Kansas plains can spawn severe thunderstorms, hail, and summer dust storms. Further east, you’ll encounter humid heat and pop‑up storms across Missouri and Illinois, and the rolling Appalachian foothills bring their own winter ice and fog challenges.

Along the way, don’t miss the soaring red‑rock cliffs of Glenwood Canyon, the stark beauty of the Kansas Flint Hills, St. Louis’s Gateway Arch, the roar of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the lush river valleys of western Pennsylvania. By monitoring I‑70 Weather in real time, you’ll be ready for mountain snow, prairie storms, or icy fog—and free to enjoy one of America’s most scenic cross‑country routes.

I70 weather includes cities on the I70 corridor such as Denver Colorado, Topeka, Kansas City, St. Louis Missouri, Indianapolis Indiana, Columbus Ohio, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, and Baltimore Maryland.  I70 spans east west across the United States with a wide variety of weather conditions along I70.  Parts of I70 in Missouri and Kansas have been claimed as the first sections of the Interstate Highway System to open to traffic, but no matter where you are on Interstate 70, it’s hard to deny the majesty of the drive itself.

The last piece of the Interstate Highway System was completed in the stretch of I70 that spans Glenwood Canyon. It was finished in 1992 and includes engineering achievements such as the Eisenhower Tunnel and the San Rafael Swell. Did you know that the Eisenhower Tunnel is in excess of 11,000 feet above sea level?

This iconic interstate is known for many beautiful drives and dangerous, life-threatening weather conditions, but for many, it’s the route they take to cross the Midwest.
